via IFTTTSomebody explain to me why 20,000 people will protest Brett Bailey's piece, while 95% of everything that comes out of Hollywood and 99% of mass media is racist, sexist, and homophobic? Somehow Chris Brown being celebrated isn't worth protesting, but this is? If all the energy being put into this discussion on Bailey's piece was put into protesting the ways in which women, black people, etc. are represented by these dominant sources, it would be a fucking miracle. People are fucking annoying.

via IFTTTWhat's missing from this entire debate on Brett Bailey's Exhibition B being taken down at The Barbican is that the entire value of work like this (and, in my mind, what should be the value of most art) is THIS DEBATE.

via IFTTTi'm so fucking sick of artists who get work shown because they know how to please people. i'm sick of the venues that show them and the funders who fund them. If art was all supposed to pleasurable, we'd all be mindless idiots. i'm sick of venues booking shitty work that is 'experimental' in the least experimental way, so they and their audience's can check radical/progressive/good-for-the-homos/women/unrderprivileged off their moral checklist and never show anything actually radical ever. I'm sick of the artists who make work under the guise of experimentation only to repeat the same experiments done 50 years ago, but done without rigour, without research, without asking new questions, and most of all, making something that was once radical completely palatable, safe, and apolitical. i'm sick of a lot of things. maybe i'll do another one of these later.
